What is global warming?

Heating your pool, switching on your hair dryer, turning on the hot tap -practically everything -requires energy of some sort, and that energy must come from a source, or a fuel.

The problem is is that these fuels (commonly 'fossil' fuels) produce a lot of carbon dioxide when burnt. This is a fact of nature, and although great measures are taken to minimise it, fuels such as coal, oil and gas produce emissions that are harmful to our planet when released into the atmosphere.

The problem lies in what is known as the Greenhouse Effect. You see, our planet is very cleverly designed -in fact, it has it's own invisible shield, protecting us all from harmful cosmic and solar radiation. Without this shield (known as the ozone layer), our planet would burn.  The increase in carbon emissions, however, is not escaping our atnosphere, past the ozone layer, and is causing our planet to heat up. This is known as Global Warming.

A great amount of debate is being made, but very action is being enforced to ensure a greener future.

Governments around the world are trying to agree on what can be done, while some flat out refuse the connection between the rise in carbon emissions and Global Warming.

(Above) How our planet protects us from the harmful radiation is under pressure from increased carbon emissions. (Below)how trapped carbon emissions are causing a 'greenhouse effect' and accelerating GW.

The 'Greenhouse Effect' is being accelerated by an increase of carbon dioxide emissions into the Earth's atmosphere, causing global warming. Something needs to be done...
